Established in 2020, our Musical Motivation program was designed to inspire youth to experiment with various forms of musical instruments from the safety of their homes. The program includes general music activities that are placed within take-home activity packs, music activity videos, several programs that teach the basics of playing instruments (guitar, ukulele, and piano), and Indigenous musician showcasing.
Our Methods
Craft Packets
We provide basic music education activities relevant to various genres, musical instruments, homemade instruments, music therapy, and the fundamentals of music theory. Videos accompany most lessons and can be found at our YouTube channel.
Workshops
We collaborate with many amazing Indigenous musicians and programs like Native American Music Fund (NAMF) to provide participants insight on how musical expression can be a healthy and fun approach to self-expression. In addition, collaborators have volunteered to host.
Showcases
To share musicians' personal journey with music and gives an opportunity to perform for our participants and the surrounding community. Ultimately creating a supportive atmosphere to show the significance of musical expression and inspire creativity.
Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your work. Let’s change the world.

Rock the Block
“Rock the Block” was the first music event hosted by Rez Refuge! The event was held on July 17th, 2021, on the basketball court near the Rez Refuge Community Center.
Our main goal for the event was to inspire the community to try any form of musical expression and to contribute a platform for local musical artists to perform. In efforts to bring this event to life, Rez Refuge collaborated with Native American Music Fund (NAMF), many talented Indigenous musicians, artists, and food vendors.
“Rock The Block” was constructed to not limit the artists but encourage various styles of music. Some of the genres included classical, rock, blues, and alternative rock/pop for the community. Rez Refuge hopes to make this an annual event due to the positive impact on the musicians, community, and our participants.
Look forward to our next Rock the Block music event in 2022 !
A virtual presentation of local Indigenous Musicians during the month of November, in celebration of Native American Heritage Month.
It was created to share Indigenous musicians’ personal journey with music and gives an opportunity to perform for our participants and the surrounding community. Ultimately creating a supportive atmosphere to show the significance of musical expression and inspire creativity.
